Superintendent Update - 9/19/2022
Dear NELSD Families,

We wanted to share important information with you about some things happening in our District.

Speech Therapy
Due to the shortage of speech therapists across the State, NELSD has experienced more limited access to in-person speech therapists this year. However, we plan to ensure that we continue to provide this necessary service to our students. Therefore, the District is partnering with the Clark County Educational Service Center (ESC) to obtain virtual speech therapy services from the telehealth provider, E-Therapy. E-Therapy provides online therapy services for Pre-K-12 students nationwide using experienced, qualified clinicians who are licensed to provide speech services to students.

To further support this program, we have created a therapy room. Our District will hire a full-time educational aide who will be responsible for setting up the needed technology, bringing the students to the therapy room, and monitoring them while they are receiving these services. Virtual speech therapy services will start for some students on Monday, Oct 3, 2022.

The District will be providing in-person services to our preschools and to other students based on identified needs and staff availability. ESC Speech Supervisor Kristi Knight Craddock will provide initial testing for students who need evaluations at Northeastern and Rolling Hills Elementary.

The District will be sending individual notices to families of students who will receive telehealth services through E-Therapy. Your student will continue to receive all service minutes in their Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Section 504 plan as determined appropriate by their team. We are committed to working with our staff and students to make this service accessible and successful for our students and look forward to working with E-Therapy and the Clark County ESC as partners in this endeavor.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a meeting with your child’s IEP or Section 504 team, please contact NELSD Pupil Services Director Steve Linson at (937) 325-7615 or email him at [email protected].

Middle Urbana Road Construction Update
We received an update from the Clark County Engineer’s Office regarding the construction on Middle Urbana Road. At the end of the day on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, Phase II, or the north phase of construction between Kenton Ridge High School and Moorefield Road, will begin. At that time, the Clark County Engineer's Office will re-open the south portion of Middle Urbana Road between State Route 334 and Kenton Ridge High School. Please see the notice from the Engineer’s Office below.

We have worked with the Clark County Engineer’s Office to accommodate the Kenton Ridge Homecoming Parade Route on Friday, Sept. 23rd. While the north portion of Middle Urbana Road will be open for the parade route, it will not be available to traffic for the Homecoming Game. Therefore, following the Homecoming Parade and Game, traffic will need to exit the Kenton Ridge High School parking lot using the south entrance, heading south on Middle Urbana.

FinalForms Reminder
Parents/guardians must complete the FinalForms student registration every school year. Please click here to create your parent account and update your child(ren)’s information.

Our district has received reports that the Bloomz (and SeeSaw) platform was hacked and is sending out emails with an inappropriate photo attachment, links and/or URL's. If you do receive an email from Bloomz, do not open it, as we do not know the source or the potential impact on your account.

These messages will be going to the email address where you usually receive Bloomz email notifications.

NELSD does not currently use and has not used Bloomz for a few years, and we are just as shocked and unhappy about this as you are.

As always, please contact me by email at [email protected] or by phone at (937) 325-7615 with any questions or concerns you may have.
