Superintendent Update - November 16, 2021

November 16, 2021

Dear NELSD Families and Staff,

It has been three weeks since the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) released its “Mask to Stay” and “Test to Play” guidelines for schools. Those guidelines incorporated mask-wearing and testing to reduce the chance of COVID-19 spreading within school settings and provide a safe alternative to quarantines.

Since Northeastern Local School District (NELSD) implemented the “Mask to Stay” and “Test to Play” quarantine options, we have seen a decrease in student quarantines. Unfortunately, while our District numbers have been looking good the past few weeks, we are seeing a slight increase in student quarantines this week, and Clark County is seeing an increase of COVID-19 cases, up 15% each week for the past two weeks.

Keeping this in mind as we go into the holidays, we want to encourage our families to be vigilant and protect themselves against COVID-19. Our families need to understand the “Mask to Stay” and “Test to Play” guidelines are for in-school exposures only (classroom or other school settings). Exposures that happen outside of school-related activities will still need to follow the standard quarantine guidelines. Additionally, the “Mask to Stay” and “Test to Play” guidelines will not pertain to students with a mask exemption since they are not permitted to wear masks due to medical or religious reasons.

Although masking is optional, we will continue to strongly encourage anyone to wear a face-covering while inside a NELSD building. The District will also continue to monitor our cases and provide the list of close contacts to the Clark County Combined Health District (CCCHD).  Additionally, families interested in COVID-19 vaccinations can call the CCCHD at (937) 717-2439 or visit https://www.ccchd.com/ to schedule an appointment for anyone five years old or older.

As always, we appreciate the support of our families for our teachers, staff, and our students. We will continue to keep you informed about the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and their impact on our District.

Respectfully,

John P. Kronour, Ph.D.

Superintendent Northeastern Local Schools
