Northeastern Board Selects New Treasurer

The Northeastern Board of Education has selected an accomplished public finance veteran as the district’s next financial leader.
The Board of Education voted at a special meeting on Thursday, Jan. 25, to hire Mr. Dale Miller, currently treasurer at Springfield City Schools, as the next treasurer/chief financial officer of the Northeastern Local School District. During his five-year tenure at Springfield City School District, Mr. Miller oversaw a $96 million annual operating budget and prepared award-winning comprehensive annual financial reports and popular annual finance reports.
“As a 34-year veteran of public finance, Mr. Miller brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Northeastern treasurer’s office,” said NELSD Board President Mrs. Jill Parker. “His expertise in financial forecasting, state and federal reporting, and budget development, and his knowledge of Clark County, will be an asset to our community in this role.”
Prior to becoming the treasurer of Springfield City Schools in 2013, Mr. Miller served as that district’s accountant for four years. From 1986 to 2008, he was the director of finance for the city of Urbana. A licensed Ohio treasurer, school business manager, and certified public accountant, Mr. Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in business with a major in accounting from Urbana University.
“I am very pleased and honored to have been selected as the districts’ next treasurer/CFO,” said Mr. Miller. “I want to thank the Board of Education for the trust they have placed in me. Northeastern appeals to me due to its rural feel and my love of farming when I am not being a school treasurer. I look forward to serving the Board of Education, students and parents of the Northeastern Local Schools.”
The Board of Education selected Mr. Miller from a competitive field of candidates in a statewide search conducted with the assistance of K-12 Business Consulting, the Clark County ESC, and the Ohio Association of School Business Officials. The search included input from board of education members, community members, teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop a leadership profile for the next treasurer. The position became available when Mrs. Denise Robinson resigned at the end of 2017 to accept employment with another district.
“We listened to our staff and community members to find a school finance professional with a proven track record," said Superintendent Dr. John Kronour. "I feel confident that Dale will be a great fit here and look forward to working with him very much.”
Mr. Miller and his wife, Jeanette, live outside Urbana, where they enjoy working on a small family farm with their two sons. He is a former board member of West-Liberty Salem Schools and Ohio Hi-Point Career Center. Mr. Miller is a member of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) and the Ohio Government Finance Officers Association. He serves on several committees of OASBO and is recognized as a financial leader in the profession.
