The Office of Curriculum and Instruction is responsible for what students are taught and how that instruction is delivered. Our office also focuses on the ongoing revision of all courses that are taught in the Northeastern Local School District. We are in a very exciting and challenging time in education today. There are several educational changes upcoming, and we are taking steps to prepare for those now. With the state of Ohio adopting the Common Core standards in both Language Arts and Math, along with newly revised Ohio standards in Social Studies and Science, much in what we teach is changing. Our staff at NELSD is working and planning to make the transition to the new standards go as smooth as possible. We will be revising our curriculum and current assessments to better prepare students for new state assessments that will be implemented in the 2014-15 school year.
Even with this extensive task occurring, the most important goal for our staff is to focus on the students sitting in front of them each and every day to ensure that every child in NELSD is continuing to receive an outstanding education. Our district curriculum needs to focus on student growth and meet individual needs as well. In completing this task it is extremely important that we provide our staff with ongoing professional development to help in their professional growth.
