EPA DIESEL RETROFIT PROGRAM
The Northeastern Local School District has strenghtened their committment to cleaner air by retrofitting seventeen (17) of our older diesel engine buses with Diesel Oxidation Catalyst Mufflers funded through an EPA Diesel Retrofit Program grant.
The EPA estimates this will result in a reduction of 44.4 pounds of fine particulate pollutants (soot), a 886.4 pound reduction of carbon monoxide, and a 182.4 pound reduction of hydrocarbons. This will result in a 39% reduction of pollution from these buses.
The district intends to apply for additional grant funding for retrofitting additional buses with pollution reducing technology.
